To you, the Web Browser,
Hi! Glad you found us. Please feel free to look around and see what interests you.
Often times, especially when I’m eating at a new restaurant, I’ll ask the waiter who is taking our order, “What are you proud of here?” Sometimes that person will give me a puzzled look so I’ll reframe the question like this, “It’s my first time here, what would you advise me to order so that I’ll want to come back time and time again?” I’ve often gotten some awesome food by asking that question.
Maybe that’s your question for Cherokee. What are we proud of here?
First I’d invite you to check out our Children’s Christian Education program. IMHO our children are getting a great Bible education. If you have a younger child ages 3-14, put them in our Sunday School program and they will learn the stories of the Bible. Children who come here know that they are loved. We see in them the hope of our world’s future, and we strive in every way to give them a great Christian Education start.
Second, I’d invite you to check out the ways we seek to help each person connect with God. For a lot of folk that path to connection is not easy. We live in a culture that often takes us away from faith rather than towards a trust in God. At Cherokee we specialize in helping folks make the human/divine connection. We help folks to see and experience the reality of God’s spirit in their lives. We teach the skills that are necessary for folks to grow up in their faith. For instance, I offer a class for those wanting to learn about the bible and explore their belief system. My sermons often invite folk to explore their faith rather than to accept some bit of church doctrine. All in all you will find at Cherokee an open mindedness and acceptance that is quite different from many churches.
Third, I’m proud of our inclusive and accepting nature. While we don’t make a big deal about it (except maybe right here!) we are a church that welcomes everyone “without regard to gender, race, color, ethnicity, marital status or sexual orientation.” Every week during our Communion service everyone present is invited to participate according to their own preference. We like to think it’s the way God wants our whole world to be.
So there you are three reasons to come check us out. I think you’ll have an awesome experience.
